Our Editorial & Medical Review Standards

At BetterSmiles, we publish oral-health information that people use to make real decisions about their teeth and their families’ health. We take that seriously. This page explains exactly how our content is created, reviewed, and kept accurate — so you know what’s behind every article.

Who we are

BetterSmiles is an independent oral-health publisher. We’re not a dental practice selling a procedure — our job is to give you clear, trustworthy, evidence-based information about dental care, treatments, and products.

How we create our content

Every article follows the same process:

  1. Research — we start from authoritative, up-to-date sources (see “Our sourcing standards” below), not opinion.
  2. Writing — a writer drafts the article in plain language, focused on answering your question completely and honestly.
  3. Editing — an editor checks it for clarity, accuracy, and balance, and removes hype or fluff.
  4. Medical review — a licensed dental professional reviews the medical substance before it publishes (see below).
  5. Publishing & updating — once approved, it goes live with the author and reviewer named, and we revisit it over time to keep it current.

Medically reviewed by licensed dental practitioners

Health content is only trustworthy if a qualified professional stands behind it. Every medical article on BetterSmiles is reviewed by a licensed dental practitioner before publication. Our reviewer verifies that the clinical information is accurate, safe, and consistent with current standards of care. Articles that have been reviewed show a “Medically reviewed by” line with the reviewer’s name, credentials, and the review date.

Our medical reviewer: Dr. Scott A. Puckett has been in practice since 2000, and has been practicing in Wilmington, OH since 2007.

Our sourcing standards

  • We cite authoritative, primary sources — such as the American Dental Association (ADA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIH/NIDCR), the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), and peer-reviewed research.
  • We link to our sources so you can check them yourself.
  • We do not invent statistics, prices, or claims, and we don’t present opinion as fact.

Accuracy and updates

Dental science and recommendations change. We review our content periodically and update it when guidance changes or new evidence emerges. Articles display a “last updated” date so you can see how current they are.

Corrections policy

We’re committed to getting it right, and to fixing it fast when we don’t. If you spot an error, email us at [email protected] and we’ll review it promptly. When we make a substantive correction, we update the article and its “last updated” date.

Advertising, affiliates, and independence

BetterSmiles is supported by advertising and by affiliate partnerships (we may earn a commission when you buy through some of our links, at no extra cost to you). This never influences our medical information or our product recommendations. Reviews and recommendations are based on evidence and merit, and affiliate links are always disclosed.

Not a substitute for professional care

BetterSmiles provides general educational information. It is not a substitute for professional advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a licensed dentist or physician about your specific situation.
